The Blueislands project, aims to identify, address and mitigate the effect of the seasonal variation of waste generated on the Mediterranean islands during the summer months, as an effect of increased tourism. With 14 organizations from eight Mediterranean countries participating, the project focuses on the islands that are confronted with common challenges, where tourism is a basic pillar of the economy, also affecting the environment, the Region of Crete said in an announcement.
