PMF-Zagreb is among the largest faculties within the University of Zagreb and it is one of the leading natural science centres in Croatia. As a part of the Department of Biology, the Laboratory for Marine Biology is focusing its research on biology and ecology of benthic communities in the Adriatic Sea. The Laboratory collaborates with other national universities and institutes as well as with a number of Mediterranean research groups, industry (e.g. in fouling surveys on gas platforms in the North Adriatic), State Institute for Nature protection of the Republic of Croatia, marine protected areas, NGOs and international organisations. Members of the Laboratory coordinated a number of national research projects and have participated in FP7-REGPOT project.
